About The Community News Brief
The Community News Brief is the only locally-owned newspaper truly covering local news in McDonough County and beyond.
First established in 2017 as a three-day-a-week free community newsletter, The Community News Brief is now published twice a week as a 20- or 24-page newspaper, delivered to mailboxes and area businesses on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Community News Brief employs numerous experienced writers, including a full-time sports writer, two graphic designers, two delivery drivers and an office manager. The free community newsletter, The MIDWEEK, is still delivered on Wednesdays to area businesses.
The Community News Brief covers news and issues important to residents of McDonough County and the surrounding west central Illinois region. The Brief contains a variety of local news (including localizing national issues), area high school sports, features, government reporting, historical pieces, columns from local community leaders and syndicated national columnists, comics, TV listings, a community calendar, letters to the editor, police and fire reports and much more.
