The Western Illinois University Student Learning Center (SLC) announced the results from the 2024-25 school year, demonstrating significant improvements in student engagement and academic performance across multiple key metrics.

The SLC's tutoring program achieved remarkable success this semester, with tutors completing a 308% increase in the number of tutoring appointments over the 2023-24 academic year and a 737% increase since 2022-23.

'We're thrilled to see such strong engagement from our students,' Tutor Coordinator Lisa Melz-Jennings said. 'These numbers reflect not just quantity, but quality connections that are making a real difference in student success. All the credit goes to the graduate and undergraduate tutors we employ.'

The SLC's success coaching program also achieved exceptional outcomes this year, setting new benchmarks for student achievement and retention: Academic Standing Success: 89.5% of students finished the year in good academic standing, with spring semester performance reaching an impressive 93% – a new program record.

Retention Excellence: The program maintained a 96.5% retention rate for the full academic year, with spring semester retention climbing to 99% – another program milestone.

Student Achievement Highlights: Beyond retention and academic standing, 11% of participating students graduated during the academic year, while 18% earned Dean's List recognition by achieving a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of the SLC’s comprehensive support model, which combines personalized coaching with academic resources to help students achieve their educational goals.
