Rep. Hammond announces bid for another term

Rep. Hammond announces bid for another term

Illinois state Rep. Norine Hammond has announced her bid for another term in the 94th District in central and western Illinois.

Hammond this week submitted the following statement on her campaign's Facebook page:

"Serving you, the people of western Illinois, has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Throughout my tenure, I’ve worked to ensure our voices are heard in Springfield. Too often, laws are written with only one county in mind, ignoring the unique needs and values of our region. I’ve opposed policies out of step with our principles—measures that would never gain support in western or downstate Illinois—and have stood for a government that represents all citizens.

"Many of the bills I sponsor begin with ideas from constituents. This district is home to deeply engaged citizens, and it’s a privilege to turn their concerns into meaningful legislation.

"My priorities include supporting agriculture, improving rural infrastructure, advancing education, and ensuring state services reach all Illinois residents. I’m also a strong advocate for veterans, seniors, and individuals with special needs.

"I’ve opposed proposals to extend taxpayer-funded benefits to individuals living in Illinois illegally—especially as our state struggles to care for its own citizens. Illinoisans deserve better stewardship of their tax dollars.

"As Deputy Minority Leader, I remain committed to promoting transparency, fiscal responsibility, and policies that serve our rural communities. I look forward to continuing this work and earning your support."

In 1999, she became a legislative aide to Rep. Rich Myers and would serve in that capacity until his death in Dec. 2010. Hammond was sworn into his seat that same month.

She was last elected in 2022 to a four-year term, meaning she may be contested in November 2026.

The 93rd district includes all or parts of Galesburg, Macomb, Mount Sterling, Rushville, Havana and Abingdon.
