Find Out What It Means to be a Big Brother/Sister at Macomb Event

MACOMB – Find out what it means to be a 'big brother/sister' at the 'Big for the Day,' to be held at Macomb's Big Brothers Big Sisters Office, 1401 W. University Dr., Saturday, July 12.

Sponsored by the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of McDonough and Warren counties, the event, which will be held from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. will give prospective 'Bigs' the opportunity to learn more about the organization and meet a few area children who are eligible to be a part of BBBS. Prospective 'bigs' will be teamed up with prospective 'littles' for games, food and fun.

According to BBBS Director Sara Baca, the event not only helps build a volunteer-base for the local organization, it also demonstrates community support to the children who take part in BBBS.

'This event illustrates how just a few hours can make a huge impact,'' Baca added. 'Participating in the 'Big for the Day' program sends a clear message of support and encouragement.'

Currently, there are 43 children, ages six to 18, involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of McDonough and Warren counties. Children are paired with a 'Big,' a volunteer who spends time with a child (or children) and serves as a role model and mentor. Baca stressed that more 'Bigs' are always needed to provide critical one-on-one time with the students they serve.

'We're excited to host our second 'Big for the Day' program this year to introduce our organization and the wonderful children (and volunteers) who are part of our organization to prospective new 'Bigs,'' Baca said.
