Johnny LeRoy Howard, 78, of New Philadelphia, IL, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 8:20 a.m.
He was born January 22, 1947, in Macomb, to Carol and Melba (Boden) Howard. On December 20, 1969, he married Vicky Lee Heaton at the Baptist Church in Bushnell. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Jonathan Howard of New Philadelphia, and Jamie (Tiffany) Howard of Colchester; five granddaughters: Madilyn (Cameron Woodbury) Howard, Elleigh, Alexis, Almalee, and Faye Howard; one great great-grandson Deacon Woodbury; three sisters: Carolyn (Gerald) Stutsman of Macomb; Connie Sue (David) Hendrickson of New Philadelphia; and Cheryl (Lawson) Barclay of Macomb; one brother: James Howard of New Philadelphia; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-inlaw, Diana Howard.
Johnny was a 1965 graduate of Bushnell-Prairie City High School. He was the proud owner and operator of Howard Motors in New Philadelphia for over 59 years. A true small business owner, Johnny wore many hats—owner, operator, mechanic, salesman, and handyman. His passion for automobiles was unmatched, especially his love for classic cars. His prized possession was his 1969 AMX.
Johnny found great joy attending car shows, going to races, and specially making trips to the Indianapolis 500. Above all, he cherished his role as 'Grandpa.' His five granddaughters brought him endless pride and happiness, and he loved watching them grow.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
