The Macomb Park Board of Commissioners voted at its monthly meeting last week to re-elect Neil Armstrong as board president. Molly Selders was re-elected vice-president.Commisssioners elected Phil Weiss as district treasurer and Cory Clem as assistant treasurer. Business Manager Chris Frankhauser was appointed interim board secretary.
The park board also heard a summary of the 2024 external district audit by Chad Lucas of Sikich in Springfield. He said his firm had given the park district a 'clean opinion.' Lucas said the 2024 cash total was $986,175, and that the district's equity position of assets over liabilities was $242,033.
He said, 'Expenses exceeded program revenues due to Patton Park improvements.' Lucas said the loss would eventually be covered by grants once the district files its expenses.
Treasurer Weiss said the district ended May with $210,617 in its general fund and $157,797 in its consolidated project fund.
Following his re-election, Armstrong said, ' I look forward to another successful year.'
He said last Friday was the deadline for the board to receive a list of candidates for its park director vacancy. The board will be working with the Illinois Association of Park Districts to schedule interviews over the next three or four weeks.
Frankhauser reported that five members of the McDonough County Special Recreation Association went to Springfield to participate in the Illinois Special Olympics. He also said that ping pong tables have been set up in Patton Park. Frankhauser said 1,000 people attended the recent movie shown at Veterans Park, and there will be two other movie showings in August and September.
Lakeview Nature Center will host 'Nature's Fireworks,' an evening viewing of fireflies on July 12.
