Robinson, Holthaus Take Part in Muddy River Showcase

Macomb High graduates Kylie Robinson and Braden Holthaus headed to Quincy Saturday to participate in the fourth annual Muddy River Showcase at the John Wood Community College’s Student Activity Center.

The event featured girls and boys games with teams representing Illinois and Missouri.

In the girls game, the Illinois team defeated the Missouri squad 88-65.

Robinson started for the Illinois squad, playing 32 minutes. She finished 6-of-13 from the floor, also adding a free throw in finishing with 13 points.

She narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds and five steals.

The Illinois squad took control early, building a 28-14 lead after the opening quarter. They built their lead to 48-29 by halftime and enjoyed a 66-50 advantage heading into the final frame.

Illini West graduate Reagan Reed and Central/ Southeastern’s Lauren Miller topped the Illinois squad with 21 points each.

CSE’s Matt Long, who announced his retirement after the last season, coached the Illinois squad.

In the boys game, the Illinois squad rallied for an 89-82 victory against their Missouri counterparts.

Holthaus played 18 minutes, finishing 1-of-6 from the floor in scoring three points. He also added two rebounds and a steal.

Missouri led 24-23 after the opening quarter and held a 46-40 halftime edge.

But the Illinois squad rallied in the third period, outscoring the Missouri squad 31-15 in seizing a 71-61 lead heading into the final stanza.

Quincy High graduate Keshaun Thomas topped the Illinois squad with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

The Illinois team was coached by West Hancock’s Jeff Dahl.
