Steiner: We Are Community...

Read with interest an article about loneliness in America. I think of lonely people as people like me who have lost their partner or who have outlived most of their family or who had little to no family to begin with. The article pointed out that young people are also lonely. When I thought about that, I realized that some people spend so much time on their phones that they barely know how to converse with others. Also, I think older people are more likely to attend church or belong to organizations than younger people. I know that I am very grateful for friends who text each morning. It is good to know that someone is thinking of you as your day begins or ends. I know that I should visit people more. Perhaps each of us could decide to visit with just one more person each week or each month to brighten both our lives.

It seems that we now live in a world where there are quite a lot of people who cannot be trusted. Each day I get emails wanting me to change a password, click on a link or go to their website or something similar. It is disturbing that there are so many trying to scam us in some way. This week I had two gentlemen in my store wanting to sell me solar. I have had solar for 5 years so I know a bit about solar and how it should work and some about what types of plans are available. I received several different appointment times on my phone. When I got an appointment for 6:30 am on Sunday morning, I knew they wanted me to click on their link to tell them that must be a mistake. Needless to say, I did not click on the link and promptly deleted the others. If someone stops by to try to sell you solar or any other program, please check out the company to see if they are reliable or if it is just some type of scam.

We finally got rain. This means that the flowers, crops and weeds are growing very well. Have spent several hours pulling weeds from the yard and flower beds but still have a long way to go. I have small trees that come up in the flower beds and when I trim them back, they just seem to multiply. Am sure there is something I could buy to kill the roots but have not done that as yet.

Had an awful experience on Monday. Was pulling weeds by my patio when two loose dogs came across my yard. They saw my three kitties near me and took off after them. The larger dog caught my oldest kitty, Black Beauty, and killed her. By the time I caught up to them, the dog had Beauty in its jaws and was shaking her body violently. I do not blame the dog’s instincts but I do blame the owner of a dog who would allow this to happen. Pets are family members for many people.

A friend brought in uranium glass and old photos this week. Love them both so have both for sale at the store for as long as they last.

The Plymouth Park now has a lovely new clock in the center. It looks very nice as does the fountain, the walking path, the flower bed and the redone stage. It is good to see so many people enjoying the park.

Have a good week. Try to visit someone who you think would enjoy seeing a friend. Scatter Kindness and Love.
