The Macomb Park Board last Tuesday held a public hearing on the planned sale of $785,000 in general obligation bonds, which will be used for park improvements and debt repayment.
Park commissioners voted to amend a previous resolution renaming the Lakeview Nature Center.
Receiving staff requests to retain the name Lakeview, the board voted to name the area the Ray Peterson Lakeview Nature Center in memory of the late former park director.
Board President Neil Armstrong offered commendations to Events Superintendent Michelle Narvaez and Maintenance Superintendent Jeff Hoyt for their work on the recent World War II exhibit, and to Support Services Superintendent Sam Howard for major cleanup at Patton Park.
Armstrong also shared he has accepted a nomination to serve on the Illinois Association of Park Districts board of trustees, starting in January.
Park District Director Blake Severs said "a lot of partnerships" made the World War II exhibit possible. He said it was viewed by a cumulative total of 752,000 people. He noted the district was involved in two recent fundraisers, one in September for the McDonough County Special Recreation Association and a park golf tournament that raised $2,500 for the First Christian Church Emergency Food Cupboard.
Severs said the Christmas light show would again be held in Veterans Park.
The park board spent 20-minutes behind closed doors conducting the park director's annual review.
Returning to open session, commissioners voted to accept Severs' annual report. Commissioners witnessed the awarding of the Marjorie Connor Spirit Award to Corey Clause. MCSRA program supervisor Allie Foster called Clause "one of our most deserving athletes."
