Loaves & Fishes Receives Anonymous $10k Matching Donation
Donations Matched through Oct. 31
An anonymous benefactor has given a $10,000 match to Loaves & Fishes of Macomb to help area families who are facing food insecurity, as well as financial uncertainties that make purchasing basic items for their families a challenge. Now, Loaves & Fishes is asking for the community's help in matching the $10,000 donation. The challenge runs through Oct. 31.
Loaves & Fishes, Etc. of Macomb runs on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-noon and 2-4 p.m. at Prairie View Townhomes, 425 N. Prairie Ave., Macomb. The not-for-profit provides grocery vouchers to McDonough County residents, and has seen an average of over 500 families monthly and spending over $22,000 each month to provide that assistance.
Since the start of 2026, more than 4,370 households were served and close to $150,000 in food vouchers were distributed by Loaves & Fishes of Macomb.

According to the organization's board, the need continues to far exceed the organization's resources.
Families report using their vouchers for baby formula, diapers and wipes, toiletries and hygiene items, in addition to food.
“Many have no idea how they would make ends meet without it,” said Loaves & Fishes Board Member Cheryl McGowan. “Loaves and Fishes is very grateful for the support of this donor, as well as all the other wonderful donations that are provided by the McDonough County community. We also greatly appreciate the support that is provided by the Housing Authority of McDonough County, HyVee, Jackson Street Market and the Bushnell Market. “
Loaves & Fishes began as a food pantry in 1993 as a collaborative venture between 12 area churches.
Following a closure from 2020-2022, the organization reopened in the Prairieview Townhomes Community Center and has provided grocery vouchers once a month that could be used at Hy-Vee and Jackson Street Market in Macomb and the Individuals interested in donating to Loaves & Fishes directly can contact loavesfishes309@gmail. com or send a message to the organization's Facebook page.
