Lady Tremaine is twice widowed, in very poor circumstances and lives in a broken-down home with her two daughters and stepdaughter. Like the fairy tale goes, stepmom hopes to marry off one of her daughters to a prince. But as Lady Tremaine gets caught up in the preparations for the ball, she misses the true dangers brewing around her. This was my kind of story with a determined heroine and themes of resilience and motherhood, while still keeping a little grim in the fairy tale.
