Kelly Young, vice president for real estate development at Russell Construction and Development Company, spoke to Macomb aldermen Monday during the City Council Committee of the Whole meeting. Her company has been identified by the city council's community development committee to be the master developer for a 102-acre property anchored by an indoor sports complex.
Young spoke about Russell's real estate development team of six that would be directly working with Macomb. See separate story in today's issue about Russell and the STAR Bond District resolution discussed Monday evening.
City Administrator Scott Coker said Macomb would hold a public hearing Nov. 17 at the Spoon River College Outreach Center on the establishment of a STAR Bond District to provide grant funding for the project.
In other business at Monday's Committee of the Whole meeting, Coker said the Macomb City Hall elevator is no longer in compliance with the state fire safety code. He said the cost to update all the equipment would be $200,000.
Coker said IMEG would be paid $9,500 to design an updated system, and the city will seek bids on the project once the design is approved. He estimated the elevator work could be completed by the end of the year.
Coker also mentioned that Macomb plans to buy a small property to the east of Thorpe Park. He said the property was purchased at auction for $1,500 by the Prairie Hills Landbank and the city could buy it from them. He said the property could be used for parking by people visiting the park.
