Mann Wraps Up Season With Top 20 Finish At State Finals

Macomb High sophomore Taylor Mann wrapped up her season Saturday, finishing in a four-way tie for 20th place out of 112 golfers at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 1A Girls State Finals.

Playing at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, a 5,104-yard par 72 layout, Mann opened play Friday by shooting a 77 (38-39) to sit in a tie for sixth place.

Starting on the 10th hole, she bogeyed holes on 10, 12 and 17, while recording a birdie on 14 to sit at twoover at the turn.

Mann had bogeys on 2, 4, 6, and 7 in the back half of her round, but ended the day with a birdie on 9 to post a 39.

Starting at hole No. 1 on Saturday, the sophomore had a rough start to her round, salvaging just one par on No. 8 while finishing the front half with a 49.

But Mann bounced back with a bogey-free back nine that included birdies on 16 and 18 for a 34, leaving her with an 83 for the day.

Sophomore Maggie Pruetzel of Alton Marquette claimed the individual title, carding a 36-hole total of 149 (75-74).

She finished two shots ahead of Monticello junior Cate Sanders (7675-151).

Of the top 23 finishers in this year’s final, 13 are underclassmen.

The weekend capped the season for Mann, who claimed medalist honors in regional play at Baker Park in Kewanee with an 80. That helped Macomb capture the regional title with a score of 367.

In sectional play at Valley View Course in Cambridge, Mann tied for fifth place with an 84, advancing to the state finals.

The Bombers finished fourth as a team, narrowly missing a return trip to state. MHS (368) finished five strokes behind Rockford Lutheran (363) for the final qualifying spot.
