On Oct. 14, Macombarea residents can add some laughter, joy and sunshine to their lives – and someone else's - with a free flower from Bloom Macomb as part of the annual Society of American Florists' Petal It Forward Day.
From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, people can stop in to Bloom Macomb, 1510 E. Jackson (next to Larry A's and The Princess Shoppe) to pick up their free flower to keep for themselves and one to give it away to brighten someone else's day. According to behavioral research conducted at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, nature provides us with a simple way to improve emotional health – flowers. The presence of flowers triggers happy emotions, heightens feelings of life satisfaction and affects social behavior in a positive manner far beyond what is normally believed.
'I can't think of a better act of kindness and national incentive that aligns more perfectly with our motto, 'Plant Kindness, Grow Love,' than giving away flowers. This is a small way Bloom Macomb can brighten someone's day,' said Anne Ingersoll, owner of Bloom Macomb.
About Petal It Forward For the last 11 years, thousands of floral industry members in all 50 states have organized their teams on one day in October to take part in Petal It Forward.
According to the Society for American Florists, it’s a powerful way to illustrate the positive health benefits of giving and receiving flowers.
