City of Macomb Receives IDNA Grant for Spring Lake Park Improvements

The City of Macomb has been awarded $45,500 through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Boat Access Area Development (BAAD) Grant Program to improve boating and water recreation access at Spring Lake Park. The BAAD program provides state funding to local governments for the development and improvement of public boat and canoe access facilities throughout Illinois.

The Spring Lake Park project includes two major improvements: the installation of a new accessible kayak launch and the replacement of the park's aging tommy dock system. The new kayak launch is designed to provide a safer and more accessible way for individuals of varying ages and abilities to enter and exit kayaks and canoes. The project also includes the replacement of the existing tommy docks with 12 new docks, providing safer and more reliable space for public boat docking and fishing.

“We are extremely happy to work with the city to improve the facility and add new accessibility”, said Spring Lake Management President Ryan Hansen. “These are projects I’ve wanted to get done for years and the IDNR grant made this possible” he added.

The accessible kayak launch has been successfully installed, with installation of the new tommy docks currently underway. A grand opening ceremony will be held in Spring 2027 upon completion of the projects to officially celebrate these new amenities and kick off the spring season at Spring Lake Park.
