West Prairie, B-PC Boys Take Part In Class 1A Regional

The West Prairie and Bushnell-Prairie City High School boys golf teams headed to a rainy Coyote Creek in Bartonville Wednesday for Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional competition.

The Cyclones finished fifth out of 15 teams with a score of 386.

B-PC placed 13th with a team score of 4878. Host Illini Bluffs won the team title with a score of 328. Peoria Christian (349) and Brimfield (357), also advanced to Monday’s sectional at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria.

Cyclone sophomore Tyson Carnes birdied the first playoff hole in advancing on to sectional play as an individual.

Other scores for the Cyclones included Ethan Percy (97), Holden Coplan (97) and Keegan Siemens (97).

Cade Chamber posted a 112 and Bradeen Coplan 117 for West Prairie.

Dylan Franko topped B-PC with a 108. Landon Ferguson and Alex Kohler finished at 113, followed by Aiden Denk at 144.

Oliver Leigh carded a 146 and Domenic Faught a 151 to round out the B-PC results.

“The conditions were not the best, but the boys pushed through and didn’t give up,” said B-PC coach Tyler Snyder. “I could see a lot of frustration on their faces throughout the day, and then watched them each hit great shots and flip their emotions.”

“That is what makes coaching golf so enjoyable for me. I can’t wait to see how much they improve next year,” he added.

Illini Bluffs senior Crew Fortin posted an even par 72 in claiming medalist honors. He finished nine strokes ahead of Peoria Christian’s Elijah Ackerman.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals from non-qualifying teams will play in Monday’s sectional.

Advancing golfers from regionals in Petersburg, Dwight and Streator (Woodland) will also be part of sectional competition at Kellogg.
