WiM to Host James Brody for Sit, Stand, Move, Breathe, Rest

On Tuesday, October 6, at 5:30 p.m., the Western Illinois Museum (WiM) welcomes James Brody, a teacher of the Alexander Technique and Body Mapping, for a workshop. Brody will show how greater awareness of our everyday movements can help prevent injury, relieve pain, and support our well-being over time. The program also explores the vital role the arts and humanities play in that well-being. All ages are welcome, and a $5 donation is suggested at the door.

Sit, stand, move, breathe, rest - these are five activities we do every day. Yet, they are surprisingly underexplored. We know how to sit and stand, but how often do we pay attention to how we are doing them? In this engaging presentation, Brody will draw on decades of experience with the Alexander Technique, Body Mapping, and other movement strategies to explore what we may not notice about how we use our bodies. By developing greater awareness of our movements, we can learn to move more efficiently and make small changes that enhance well-being and contribute to greater comfort in everyday life.

Brody is the founder of the Musicians’ Wellness Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. While a large part of his work has been with musicians, this presentation is for anyone interested in moving with greater ease.
