The Macomb High varsity boys golf team headed to Normal Friday to take part in the University High Invitational at Weibring Golf Club on the Illinois State University campus.
The Bombers finished 14th out of 18 teams with a score of 336. However, MHS coach Greg Duncan noted that the team score was a 20 stroke improvement from when the squad played there earlier in the season.
Playing on the 6,804-yard par 71 (36--35) layout, reshman Cohen Anderson led the way for the Bombers, posting a score of 77 (40-37).
Eli Griffith was next for Macomb with a 79 (39-40), followed by Sam Helling (44-45-89) and Ryker Allensworth (44-47-91).
Kollin Knupp finished with a 91 (4447), while Brady DeWeese posted a 100 (51-49).
In the final team standings, Edwardsville and Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin finished at 299, one stroke ahead of O’Fallon.
Champaign Central and Quincy Notre Dame were next at 301, followed by U-High Gold (304), Peoria Notre Dame (305), Peoria Richwoods (307), Belleville Althoff (307) and Lockport (308).
Chicago Andrew was 11th at 314, followed by Waterloo (320), Wheaton St. Francis (326) and Macomb.
Normal West was 15th (338), followed by U-High Green (345), Bloomington High (349) and Pontiac (371).
