Glenda Joyce Mitchell Tuttle, 83, of Carthage, IL, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 12:32 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Silver Maple Memory Care in Carthage.
Glenda was born on September 26, 1942, the only child of Maxine and Glen Overby, in Mt. Vernon, IL. On June 4, 1960, she married Don Mitchell of Mt. Vernon, and they were married for 25 years. She later married Phillip Tuttle on December 2, 1994, at First Baptist Church in Carthage. Glenda graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1960. She attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and later graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught high school home economics in Warsaw and Carthage for 20 years and spent many years volunteering at Carthage Memorial Hospital, her church, and Carthage Elementary School. Glenda loved teaching, and home economics was a perfect fit for the many talents she enjoyed sharing with others.
Most of all, Glenda loved her family. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, reading, playing golf and cards, and catching up with her 'Golden Girls.' She especially loved attending her daughters' and grandchildren's sporting events and programs. Whatever team you were on became Glenda's team. If it mattered to you, it mattered to Glenda. Glenda loved her people, and she loved them big. She had a gift for making those she loved feel important. She was the keeper of secrets, the person you called to celebrate the wins, and the person you wanted when your heart was hurting. Whether through her advice, her Many of the traditions that made Christmas special began with Glenda and will continue because of her. Glenda loved Jesus, and her faith was an important part of her life. Her family finds peace in knowing that the faith she carried throughout her life has carried her home.
Glenda is survived by her two daughters, Tami Long of Carthage, IL, and Pam (Rod) Campbell of Colchester, IL; six granddaughters, Lindsey Long of Dallas City, IL, McKensey (Wyatt) Green of Burnside, IL, Brooke (Josh) McKay of Osage Beach, MO, Brittany (Tim) Muszynski of Naperville, IL, Bali (Cody) Carson of Nokomis, FL, and Bradee (Andrew) Campbell of Palmetto, FL; and ten great-grandchildren, Avinlee Wade, Coy and Dawsyn Green, Liam and Tyson McKay, Kennedy, Campbell, and Calah Muszynski, and Harlow and Blaine Carson. One stepdaughter Sharon (Bill) White of Macomb, IL, one stepson, Mike, (Leslie) Tuttle of Cherry Valley, IL, four step grandchildren, Jamie (Sara) White, Carlock, IL, John (Ellen) Tuttle, Cherry Valley, IL, Joseph Tuttle, Meinran, IN, Mallory White, Grand Rapids, MI, two great step-grandchildren, Holden White and Elizabeth Tuttle.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Don Mitchell; her second husband, Phil Tuttle; and many relatives from Mt. Vernon, IL A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Printy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
