Classical music lovers in Macomb are in for a busy start to October as the Western Illinois University School of Music hosts a pair of upcoming performances showcasing both chamber works and orchestral masterworks.
The performances kick off Thursday, Oct. 1, with a Faculty and Guest Recital featuring Trio Sorivoce at 7:30 p.m. The ensemble brings together pianist Jung-Won Shin, violinist Yunjung Lee and cellist Dong Yeol Hong for an evening of collaborative chamber music.
The music continues Friday, Oct. 2, when the WIU Symphony Orchestra presents its 'Shades of Holst' concert at 7:30 p.m. Under the baton of conductor Dr. Rich Cangro, the orchestra will celebrate the iconic compositions of English composer Gustav Holst. The program includes 'A Somerset Rhapsody, Op. 21,' 'A Fugal Overture, Op. 40/1' and 'Japanese Suite, Op. 33,' before concluding with Holst's legendary orchestral suite, 'The Planets, Op. 32,' featuring selections highlighting Mars, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter.
All performances are free and open for general seating in the School of Music Recital Hall, unless otherwise noted.
