After the Chores are Done...

It’s chilly this morning (Wednesday). Yesterday I dug out a turtleneck shirt from the closet. Today, I will find another one to put on because it’s cloudy, and about 61 degrees. If we had gone from 30 to 60, it would have been a heat wave, but going from near 90 to 60 is a chilly day.

I’ve been trimming “out-of-control shrubs.” One of them retaliated because I drastically cut it back last year, and it came back with twice as many branches. I have it under control except for a “top-knot” in the center of the tall bush. I will have to get the step ladder to reach it, or just leave it as a decorative top.

Several corn fields have been harvested in the area. I haven’t heard any yields or moisture yet, but next week there will probably be a few bean fields that will have shed their leaves and combines will be running.

The road north of our house has “road closed” signs at both ends. The culvert that needs replacing hasn’t arrived yet, and it could be nine or ten weeks before it is delivered.

Headlines in Farm Bureau’s Farm Week for the past two weeks have been about “diesel prices spike as harvest begins” and “diesel spike, beef imports pressure Iliinois farmers.” I know diesel prices are close to $6.79 a gallon and gasoline was $4.69 the other day.
