Positive Happenings, Events in Macomb: Get Involved
I recently overheard this in a conversation: “There is nothing positive happening in Macomb, there is just nothing to do.” Since I was not part of the conversation, I kept my mouth shut. I totally disagree.
Here is a snapshot of activities from Sept. 4-21: Thorpe Park Dedication honoring Macomb’s first African American Police Officer Chandler Park - Farmers Markets, Car Show, Flags of Love, Gazebo Art Festival, Library Book Sale MHS Marching Band Fundraiser Concert, Homecoming parade and football game Balloon Rally - Balloon launches, music and evening Balloon Glow City Hall - Macomb Municipal Band Concert and Out of Darkness Walk WIU Goldfarb Center for Performing Arts Ribbon Cutting Al Sears Music Festival at the Goldfarb Center, the Wine Sellers and the Western Illinois Museum WIU Football Game WIU Emergency Operations Center Ribbon Cutting on the 21st.
These events involve local government and volunteer organizations, including but not limited to, Macomb City, Macomb Tourism, Macomb Schools, WIU, Macomb Park District, Macomb Public Library, Western Illinois Museum, Chamber of Commerce and Macomb Beautiful and it is safe to say that many rely on volunteers to do the hard work. That kind of involvement and cooperation is what makes a community function and continue to thrive.
If I missed some events or organizations I apologize, but I think you will get my point. To the person who made nothing positive and nothing to do comments, get involved in the community. You will find activities and opportunities hidden in plain sight.
