Macomb City Council Salaries Set for Future Years

Salaries for Macomb City Council members elected next year were set Monday. The mayor’s annual salary will be $50,500 next year, rising to $56,825 by 2030. The city clerk will receive the same salary amounts. The city treasurer will receive $7,800 in 2027, rising to $8,690 by 2030.

The alderman-at-large elected in 2027 will receive an annual salary of $1,825, rising to $2,025 by 2030. Aldermen representing the 1st, 3rd, and 4th wards will receive the same salary ranges. City Attorney Lisa Scalf said the other alderman-at-large plus the 2nd and 5th ward aldermen would receive equivalent salaries when elected in 2029.

Also Monday, the City Council voted to approve an ordinance amendment regarding employee residency. Macomb Transit Department employees living and working in Hancock County will be covered.

Alderman-at-Large Jennifer Hemingway asked members of the public to watch out for misinformation on social media. “Use your aldermen-at-large and your ward alderman to get accurate information,” she said.

Alderman Byron Shabbazz said he learned from seminars at the recent Illinois Municipal League conference and they have given him a project idea. Alderman John Vigezzi said the IML conferences offer a good opportunity to network with elected officials from other communities. Scalf said, “Every year they put on a good conference (with) relevant and educational seminars.” City Clerk Renee Lotz said, “There were really good sessions there and I learned a lot.”
