Reviewer’s Name: Connie LaRue Reviewer’s Occupation: Retired Book Title: And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer Book’s Author: Fredrik Backman This work by a popular fiction writer is a short, poignant novella about an elderly man with Alzheimer’s and his grandson, Noah, exploring themes of memory, love, and loss as the grandfather’s world shrinks. The story uses a unique, dreamlike setting where the grandfather, his son (Noah’s father), and grandson interact, learning to say goodbye as the grandfather’s memories fade, but their love remains. It’s known for being bittersweet, heartbreaking, and heartwarming, capturing the essence of Backman’s style in a brief format. One of my idols once said, “The worst part of about growing old is that I don’t get any ideas anymore.” Those words have never quite left me since I first heard them, because this would be my greatest fear: imagination giving up before the body does. I guess I’m not alone in this.
