The Macomb High cross country teams headed to Richmond Hill Park Saturday to take part in the Geneseo Invitational.
Recent rains in the Geneseo area made for a muddy course for the runners.
“The thunderstorm that hit Geneseo just as we were arriving dumped at least a half inch of rain on the course,” said MHS coach Douglas Bradley. “We had to shelter in place for over an hour before we could get on the course which is located along the low lying ground adjacent to Geneseo Creek.”
Douglas said that the meet was divided into two races. The freshmen and sophomores raced together in the first race and the second race had juniors and seniors.
He noted by the time the second race happened the conditions were “just short of awful. It was survival of the most upright.”
