McDonough County Court Hearings Update: September 2026

Numerous court cases were recently heard in McDonough County District Court, including a pre-trial hearing for Shaking Mathis on sexual assault charges. Mathis was recently found guilty on eight charges in connection with shooting two Macomb Police Department officers on Sept. 4, 2024. He will be sentenced in November in that case.

Edward Anderson

Anderson, 49, of 88 Murphy Road, will remain in the McDonough County Jail following a Sept. 15 pretrial conference, according to McDonough County Circuit Court Judge Nigel Graham.

Anderson faces 10 counts stemming from an incident March 21 near 84 Murphy Road in Bushnell. Authorities allege Anderson deliberately rammed his vehicle into a McDonough County Sheriff’s Office squad car following an incident during the early evening hours. The Illinois State Police have charged Anderson with attempted battery with a deadly weapon, attempted aggravated battery of a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and criminal damage to state property of $10,000 to $100,000.

The Bushnell Police Department has also charged Anderson with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, resisting a police officer, domestic battery, aggravated battery and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
