Board Chair Addresses Conduct, Board Moves to Forward Auditor's Report to ISP
In a short special meeting Wednesday evening, Mike Weaver, the newly-elected interim chair of the Colchester Fire Department Board of Trustees, minced no words in regard to the audience's conduct.
After the Board accepted the resignation of former chair Joe Campbell, who turned in his resignation last week due to the 'personal attacks and accusations that took place at the end of the meeting on Sept. 9,' an unknown man in the audience piped up, stating, ' If he didn't like being attacked, maybe he should refrain from doing the same thing.' This led Weaver to read a statement from the Board regarding audience, and Board, conduct.
'This is a meeting. Without interruptions, please,' Weaver directed to the audience member. 'I will read a letter from the Board because we want to address some of the issues we've been going through lately. These proceedings have been, from time-to-time, interrupted, chaotic and even a little aggressive. We as a Board will no longer tolerate that. The agenda is legal and will be followed without interruption. If interrupted, the party will be warned and/or removed.
'This Board has authority over this department and especially these proceedings. Therefore, we deserve the respect to do so as we see fit. There are avenues you can take if you disagree with our decisions, but disrupting or verbal attacks is not it,' he continued.
