Sticks and Stones

We have lost the art of talking to each other. It has been going on for a while now, but I think it ramped up during the pandemic lock down time. We have all gotten used to reaching out in a text rather than making a call. We would rather rant in the comments on social media than have a face to face discussion about divisive subjects. As an introvert I have to work extra hard to talk to people, so I am one of the worst culprits of this new form of communication. I can go days without physically speaking to another human and be just fine.

My husband is an extrovert. His head would explode.

'My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.' James 1:19-20 I believe that this lack of real communication has brought out some of the worst of who we are. It is so easy to sit behind a keyboard and express our feelings without giving it a second thought. Emails and texts have no tone and many times we send our thoughts out into the digital ether while we are angry, so they often lead to misunderstanding.

'Be quick to listen.'
