Bennie Dean Arvin, age 87, Macomb, passed away on Saturday, September 12, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria following a brief illness related to heart disease.
He was born on November 4, 1938, in his family’s home in rural Adair, Illinois to Harlie and Rena (Tatham) Arvin. He married Alice Hightower on June 19, 1959, in Macomb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Wanda Shirrell and her daughter Lynette Hillyer; stepsons Richard and Jerry Robinson.
He is survived by two sons, Alan (Barb) Arvin of Colchester and Tony Arvin of Macomb, IL; his sister, Mary Hainline of Macomb; nephews Jay (Michelle) Hainline of Colchester, IL; Troy (Cindy) Shirrell of Macomb, IL; step-grandsons, Alex and Jakob Robinson; and Bradley Cobb and his sons, Cash and Crew, all of Macomb.
Bennie was a graduate of Macomb High School. He worked at McGraw Edison in Macomb from 1957 to 1975 and later worked as a custodian at the YMCA for nearly 20 years.
Bennie was a humble and hardworking man who lived his life with quiet strength and kindness. Above all, he was devoted to his family and always put their needs and happiness before his own. He was a caring husband who looked after his wife of 67 years as she faced Alzheimer’s disease.
Bennie was a life-long member of The First Baptist Church of Macomb, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church of Macomb’s Building Fund.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A private burial of ashes will be held at a later date.
