Bomber Golfers Middle Of The Pack At Redbird Classic

The Macomb High boys golf team finished 16th out of 29 teams in the Redbird Classic that took place Friday and Saturday.

MHS finished with a 36-hole team total of 641.

On Friday, at Coyote Creek in Bartonville, the Bombers posted a team score of 322.

MHS coach Greg Duncan noted that score was 31 strokes better than two weeks ago when the Bombers played in the Limestone Invitational on the same course on Aug. 31.

Eli Griffith led the way for the Bombers, carding a one under-par 71.

Cohen Anderson finished with a 77, followed by Kollin Knupp and Ryker Allensworth, who both recorded 87s.

The scores for Griffith and Anderson were career lows 18 hole scores for the duo.

Sam Helling shot a 94 and Luke Chapla a 95 to round out the first round scores for Macomb.

On Saturday, the Bombers posted a team score of 319 at Metamora Fields. According to Duncan, the scores represented season team lows on backto- back days.

Helling led the way for the Bombers with a 77, one stroke ahead of Chapla.

Griffin was next with a 80, followed by Anderson with an 84.

Knupp (90) and Allensworth (91) rounded out the scoring for the Bombers.

Pleasant Valley won the team title posting a 36-hole total of 568 (four under-par).

Dunlap was next with a 586, with Normal University High (590), Washington (6-1) and Peoria Notre Dame (602) rounding out the top five.

Morton was sixth (610), followed by Pekin (612), DeKalb (623), Sycamore (630) and Peoria Richwoods (630).

LaSalle-Peru finished 11th (635), followed by Lombard Montini (636), Chicago Payton (636), Yorkville (637), Bettendorf, Iowa (640) and Macomb.

Wheaton St. Francis was 17th (644), followed by Peoria Christian (662), Galesburg (664), Normal Community West (671), Metamora (672), Pontiac (681), Limestone (689), Rantoul (692), Bloomington Central Catholic (696), Normal Community High (696), Geneseo (696), East Peoria (725), Herscher (727) and Bloomington High (727).

The Bombers were slated to return to action Monday, playing host to the Prairieland Conference Tournament at the Macomb Country Club.
