The Macomb High boys and girls golf teams finished second out of 11 teams in their respective divisions at Saturday’s Mercer County Golden Eagles Co-Ed Invitational held at Valley View Club in Cambridge.
Due to concerns with the heat, the tournament was shortened from 18 to nine holes.
The boys competition saw Macomb post a team score of 161, trailing only Illini West (146) in the team standings.
Sam Helling and Eli Griffith were part of a three-way tie for sixth place, shooting 39.
Kollin Knupp tied for 14th with a 41, followed by Luke Chapla and Cohen Anderson, who were part of a five-way tie for 16th in shooting 42.
Ryker Allensworth finished 54th with a nine-hole score of 55.
Following the Bombers in the team standings were Erie-Prophetstown (163), Orion (163), Rockridge (172), Sherrard (186), Mercer County (187), Ridgewood (191), Monmouth United (195), Farmington (202) and Stark County (226).
Bryson Grotts of Illini West was meet medalist, topping the field of 65 golfers by finishing with a score of two under-par 34.
Teammates Bryton Gavillet and Nolan Murphy were next with scores of 35 and 36 respectively.
On the girls side, MHS finished with a score of 193, trailing only Illini West (171), in the final team standings.
Taylor Mann and Reese Watson led the way for the Bombers, tying for eighth place with nine-hole scores of 47.
Kennedy McGraw was 14th with a 49, while Mullen Butcher was 16th, carding a 50.
Emma Rigg finished 32nd with a 58, while Emrey Seward was 49th, finishing with a 69.
Following the Bombers in the team standings were Orion (202), Rockridge (205), United (206), Sherrard (224), Erie-Prophetstown (241), Farmington (247) and Mercer County (254).
Ridgewood and Stark County did not field full teams and did not figure in the final team standings.
Illini West captured four of the top six positions, topped by Priya Wear.
Wear defeated United’s Paige Christianson in a sudden death playoff to claim top honors. Both finished with four over-par 41s in regulation.
The MHS boys return to action Friday and Saturday, playing in the Redbird Classic at Weaver Ridge Golf Club in Peoria and Coyote Creek in Bartonville.
The MHS girls are slated to play in the Quincy High Invitational at Westview Golf Course in Quincy on Tuesday before hosting Canton, Quincy Notre Dame and Havana on Wednesday at Gold Hills.
