Nearly 100 Attend the 100th Murfin Family Reunion

Ninety-five family members gathered together at the Stone Pavillion inside Glenwood Park in Macomb, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the annual Murfin Reunion on Sunday, Aug. 30. All the Murfin’s that came are descendants of George and Sydney Ann (Henderson) Murfin and their oldest son William Thomas and Adeline “Addie” (Cromer) Murfin families. There was at least one family descendant represented for each one of the ten children of William & Addie Murfin’s children: George “Bennie” Benjamin Murfin, Samuel Ernest Murfin, Clarence Thomas Murfin, Ella Mable Murfin, Iona Matilda Murfin, William Henry Murfin, Ralph Edward Murfin, Emmet Beufford Murfin, Gaillard Robert Murfin and Edwin Everett Murfin.

A potluck style lunch was held highlighting homemade cakes, with a presentation of video of family history for all to enjoy. Centennial souvenirs were handed out, and family photos were taken to document this historic event.

The Murfin descendant that traveled the furthest of 1,063 miles from Taos, New Mexico was Cheryl Murfin-Feldman. The oldest descendant in attendance was Walter Derry at 79 years, and the youngest descendant was Evelynn Schuiteman being one year/three months.

The next Murfin reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2027 at Glenwood Park in Macomb.
