Bushnell-Prairie City running back Jonavan Harrell had a night to remember.
The senior speedster broke loose for five touchdowns, including an 81-yard gallop, to propel the Spartans to a dominating 58-0 victory over Peoria Heights in Illinois 8-Man Football Association Central West action Friday night in Bushnell.
B-PC amassed 463 yards of total offense - all on the ground - on just 30 carries against the Patriots.
It was the fifth straight win in the series for the Spartans against the Patriots.
Along with last week’s 74-20 win over St. Thomas More, it also gave B-PC its first back-to-back wins since weeks 4-5 of the 2023 season.
The Spartans ran out to a 22-0 lead after the opening period.
Harrell scored on runs of 9 and 75 yards, while Dylan King added a 29-yard TD run of his own. Harrell also added a pair of two-point conversion runs.
B-PC doubled its advantage to 44-0 by halftime as Harrell added TD runs of 55, 31 and 81 yards.
He finished the game with 310 yards on just 12 carries.
King added a pair of two-point conversions as the Spartans were able to put the running clock in motion for the second half.
Keegan Gillette added a 28-yard score in the third quarter before Zaedin Hart added a 6-yard TD run for B-PC in the final period. Kendin Hart added the two-point conversion following Gillette’s TD.
Zaedin Hart had five solo tackles and four assists, including three tackles for losses to lead the B-PC defense.
Hunter Thompson added five tackles and one assist, while Braylon Griffitts and Andre Watts added six total tackles apiece. Watts also recorded two tacklesfor- loss.
With the win, B-PC improved to 2-1 for the season and 1-0 in the I8FA Central West while Peoria Heights fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the Central West.
B-PC will travel to Colchester Friday night to take on West Prairie/Southeastern (0-3, 0-1) in another Central West matchup.
The Spartans will be looking to avenge last year’s 46-8 loss to the Cyclones in Bushnell and regain the “Iron Spike.”
Since the series started in 2021, WP/ SE has a 3-2 lead.
