Cyclones Play at Classic; Spartans Drop Match

The West Prairie High School volleyball team wrapped up play in the Lady Suns Classic, while Bushnell- Prairie City dropped its lone match in recent competition.

At Augusta, the Cyclones wrapped up pool play on Sept. 3, dropping a 25-16, 18-25, 17-15 decision to Payson-Seymour.

West Prairie finished 1-2 in pool play, along with Payson-Seymour and Mendon Unity. The Cyclones advanced to the Gold Bracket by tiebreaker where they faced West Hancock and Rushville-Industry on Saturday.

West Prairie was edged by the Titans (6-5) 26-24, 25-21 before rebounding to defeat RIHS (2-5) 25-14, 25-10 in wrapping up tournament play with a 2-3 record.

For her efforts during the week, junior Niah Zimmerman was selected to the all-tournament team.

West Prairie (6-6) returned to action Monday, hosting Biggsville West Central (3-0) in non-conference play.

On Tuesday, the Cyclones head to Farmington (0-9) for a Prairieland crossover contest before returning home Thursday to face South Fulton (2-1, 0-1) in a Prairieland South Division encounter.

As for B-PC, the Spartans faced Monmouth United on Sept. 3.

Due to the heat and lack of air-conditioning in the B-PC gym, the match was moved to United.

The Red Storm recorded a 25-9, 25-17 win over the Spartans.

B-PC dropped to 0-4 on the season with its losing streak having reached 40 straight dating back to the 2024 season.

The Spartans open a busy week Tuesday, hosting Peoria Heights (0-5) in a Prairieland Conference crossover contest.

On Wednesday, B-PC heads to Galva (1-3) to face the Wildcats before returning home Thursday to battle North Fulton (3-0) in another Prairieland Conference crossover.
