September is National Preparedness Month and the McDonough County Health Department urges residents to make time to prepare now. Preparing for emergencies and disasters can keep families and their communities safe.
The 2026 National Emergency Preparedness Month theme is “Americans Stand Ready.” When everyone takes steps to prepare for disasters, every community and neighborhood are more resilient. Preparedness is shared responsibility. Take some time to consider your answers to the following questions and work to create your preparedness plan.
• How will you receive emergency alerts and warnings?
• What is your emergency shelter plan?
• What is your family/household communication plan?
