From the beginning of Colchester in 1857, like-minded people have formed clubs and associations, but many of those groups have faded from memory. However, the Colchester Lions Club has been a vibrant part of their community and is celebrating 75 years of service during the upcoming Labor Day celebration in Colchester Sept. 3-7.
While the official charting date of the Lions Club was Oct. 25, 1951, local men were making plans well before that date. A few weeks prior to the Labor Day picnic, A.E. White, Lions International representative, met with a number of interested persons Sept.
15 to outline a plan to form the club.
