Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, the Plymouth Circle Community Center unveiled its latest improvement, new ADA compliant restrooms at a special movie night program held August 8.
With free refreshments being offered to those in attendance, the chapel was temporarily converted into a movie theater, with a giant screen placed in front of what was the altar.
The event was well attended, enough that the Center has tentative plans to host the event again in October.
Cindy Smith, a leader of the guiding group behind the center, declined to specify the exact dollar amount involved in the work, emphasizing instead the volunteer efforts which served to keep costs down.
“I’m not going to say a dollar amount,” Smith said.
“There have been so many improvements in the past four years or so. I would think that everyone would be glad to see the changes for the better regardless of how much was spent. We have done things in the most economical way we were able to with a lot of the work being done as donations. The dollar amount doesn’t really matter to most people. It’s the functionality and eye appeal that people pay attention to.”
Smith went on to list many of the improvements, a new roof (with help from a grant from the Metzger Trust), repair to the chapel ceiling from water damage, new furnace and air conditioning for both the chapel and banquet rooms, improvements for both the kitchen and banquet rooms, plus many more.
“I really wish more people would take advantage of this awesome place to rent,” Smith concluded. “It is Plymouth’s Community Center and we want people to enjoy it.”
