Macomb City Township Supervisor Angela Markley reported Monday that 20 applications for general assistance were handed out in July. Questioned about the high number by board member John Vigezzi, she responded that few people returned the applications.
“Some find other sources of funding,” Markley said. There were 10 general assistance interviews scheduled for August.
Of the 32 general assistance applications reviewed in July, two were denied and decisions are pending on seven others. Markley said five men and six women were determined to be employable, nine men and nine women have applied for disability and two men and one woman were determined to be medically exempt from employment.
General assistance funding totaling $9,925 was distributed in July, with $8,288 allocated for shelter expenses. Markley told the township board that she has been asked to apply for a regional zone vacancy as an instructor of general assistance.
The city township supervisor said the firm BakerTilly will send Macomb’s completed 2025 external audit report to the Office of the Illinois Comptroller.
