Michael Young Burnham

 

Michael Young Burnham, a beloved husband, brother, dad, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at his home on August 14, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born on June 28, 1955, in Macomb, Illinois, Mike was the cherished son of the late Frank Kermit and Donna Lee Burnham. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents Ira and Zelma Burnham, Howard and Gladys Moon, and his grandson Cody Hickey.

Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Shirley, who shared a remarkable journey of life and love with him since they married on July 22, 1989. Mike is also survived by his sister, Cindy Henninger, and her husband Joe, along with their sons, his nephews Adam (wife Jenine their children Anniston and Jocelyn) and Jay Henninger. He will be fondly remembered by Shirley’s sons, Kevin (Toni) and Joe (Traci) Hickey, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mike was a proud grandfather to six adored grandchildren. Chris, Cody, and Caleb, Felicity, Joel, Jakayla.

He graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1973, Mike went on to establish a fulfilling career. He was a bartender at Bonnie & Clyde’s in Industry for a few years before managing the FS plants in Macomb and Adair, Illinois, a position he held with dedication for 42 years until his retirement in 2021. Mike was an active member of his community, contributing his time and energy to the New Salem Fire Department for many years and serving on the New Salem Township board. His commitment to service reflected the generous spirit for which he was known. Those who knew Mike will remember his quick wit and infectious humor—he was always ready with a joke to brighten your day. He cherished the moments spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with joy and laughter.

Cremation rites are being done. Visitation service for Mike will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Clugston-Tibbits Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at the New Salem Fire Department in Adair.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) or the New Salem Fire Department.

Mike’s memory will forever be held dear by those who knew and loved him. His legacy of laughter and love will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.
