Samantha J. Powell, 40 of Macomb, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. She was born October 18, 1985, in Macomb, the daughter of Joseph Powell and Jamie Friday Powell.
Surviving to mourn her passing is her mother: Jamie Powell, Macomb, her father and step mother: Joe (Stephanie) Powell, Colchester. Brother: Drew Powell, Colchester, Sister: Buffie (Dennis) Wardell, Colchester, Niece: Noah Huston, Macomb and Nephew: Tom Wardell, Colchester.
Along with many extended family and friends. Samantha was preceded in death by her grandparents: Bruce Powell, Rose Frakes Hill, John (Tom) Friday, and Marylou Friday.
Sam will be remembered by many for her infectious personality. She always had a smile and kind words. Not to leave out that she was quite a hoot, to boot.
Sam tested out many jobs, but two of them stick out the most as allowing her to shine her brightest.
She worked with several kids at West Prairie South Elementary, through the after school program. She loved all of those littles and they loved her.
The last few years she has been the one to brighten peoples day, even if the coffee or coke she was handing them was their first. Few would be able to drive away not smiling or still chuckling, because her biggest goal was for everyone to be happy.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester. Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Friday, August 21, 2026. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Mary, Illinois.
