Benny F. Rittenhouse

 

Benny F. Rittenhouse, 83 of Rushville, passed away at his home on Aug. 14, 2026, at 1 a.m. surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born April 10, 1943, in Schuyler County, the son of the late Frances Rittenhouse and Nellie Wallace Rittenhouse. He married Barbara Bigham on July 20, 1966. They just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. She survives along with (2) sons Ronnie (Peggy) of Waukee, IA and Randy (Nikki) of Macomb; (4) grandchildren, Jordan (Walker) Patterson of Adel, IA, Conner Rittenhouse and fiancé Andrew Hanson of Ankeny, IA, Erin (Ryan) Brake of Macomb, IL and Andrew Rittenhouse of Macomb; (2) great grandsons and (1) great granddaughter due in September; (1) sister, Linda Crook of Augusta; (3) brothers in law, Tom (Cyndi) Bigham of Rushville, Wes Moehnke of Ocean Park WA, and Bob (Merilea) Bigham of Lake City, FL; (2) sisters in law, Lois Bigham of Macomb, and Bette Workman of Gainesville, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Benny was preceded in death by (1) sister, Betty Moehnke; (1) brother-in-law, Terry Bigham; and (1) nephew, Darin Workman.

Benny worked his high school years at Gains Bros Greenhouse in Rushville. After graduation from high school, he worked at Bartlow Bros alongside his father until he was drafted by the US Army in 1964. He was at Fort Lenard Wood MO, Fort Lee, VA and then spent 13 months in Korea. After coming home, he got married and they spent 4 months at Fort Campbell, KY until his discharge in November 1968. On arriving back home in Rushville he went to work at NTN Bower in Macomb where he retired after 39 years. Benny was an avid baseball fan and a Bears fan. He enjoyed gardening and planted a garden every year until he could not due to poor health.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Kirkham officiating. Interment will follow at the Rushville City Cemetery with military honors by the US Army Honors Detail and Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service.
