To the Editor:

I am writing in regard to The Community News Brief’s uplifting May 30 edition, which featured many pro Macomb articles and opinions in response to the negative and misleading article targeting Macomb and WIU that was published in the Wall Street Journal a few weeks prior. The WSJ article was written under the pretense of heightening awareness of the plight many small university towns across America are facing, but clearly singled out Macomb and WIU. I had to wonder what the motivation was in choosing Macomb and WIU specifically. I have heard that the catalyst is likely a disgruntled former WIU employee with a connection to the WSJ. Regardless, that is not what prompted this letter.

My focus, rather, is on the positive pushback to that negative article that has been displayed by many Macomb residents. I am particularly thankful for the decision of our wonderful local newspaper, the Community News Brief, in choosing to devote a large portion of their May 30 edition to share positive information, articles and opinions about our community and to set the story straight. Their message in doing so shows clearly, once again, that they are committed to reporting the strengths of our small town, the many assets of our area and the quality lifestyle we enjoy here. It demonstrates clearly that they stand strong in using their position as a news outlet to publish PRO active news for our community, something we should all appreciate. There is no question why the CNB is such a successful and strongly supported publication. Within their reporting a full range of area news it is always obvious they strongly support individuals, organizations, events and accomplishments with a positive flair. This is so important to the interworking of the vibrant community we enjoy.

The featured articles in the May 30 CNB highlighted many positive reasons why Macomb is a wonderful place to live. I found them uplifting and energizing. The fact that the CNB chose to publish, support and share those views with their readers is just one more reason we should all be thankful that they are here for us. They provide a quality news publication that keeps us informed of local news with a focus that highlights our strengths with positivity. Their commitment, professionalism and hard work are a gift that should never be taken for granted, especially in the climate we live in today. Bravo and thank “Community News Brief”.
