Janice J. Wayland 79, of Macomb

Janice J. Wayland, age 79, of Macomb, Illinois passed away at 7:15 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2026 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

She was born on July 14, 1947 in Macomb, Illinois to Jess and Dorothy (Yeast) Davidson. She married Larry Wayland on December 18, 1966 in Macomb, Illinois.

Janice is survived by her loving husband, Larry, along with their daughter, Angie Murdock and her husband, Bill of Wataga, Illinois and son, Derek and wife, Kathy, of Angier, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Murdock of Elmwood, Illinois, Noah Murdock of Galesburg, Illinois, Ben (fiancé Kelsie) Murdock of Wataga, Illinois, Ashlyn Murdock of Springfield, Illinois, Bemi Wayland of Cary, North Carolina, Jace and Rycher Wayland of Angier, North Carolina three great-grandchildren, Westin, Alahna and Lainey Murdock with another great-grandchild on the way; two sisters, Sharon (Bill) Butcher and Debbie (David) Taylor all of Macomb; sisters-in-law, Karen LaRue of Macomb, Illinois and Polly Ann (Bob) Freese of Brooksville, Kentucky along with many special nieces and nephews and dear friends, especially Terry and Janey Morrow, who held a special place in her heart.

Janice was a 1965 graduate of Macomb High School. She worked at Western Illinois University Student Insurance Office from 1965 to 1968 and Western Illinois University Financial Aid Office as a Financial Aid Advisor from 1976 until her retirement in 2009.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Macomb and the Macomb Country Club.

Above all, she cherished her family and found immense joy in attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.

A gifted quilter, Janice lovingly created beautiful, meaningful quilts that will be treasured by her grandchildren for years to come. She was also known for her creativity, crafting unique and thoughtful Christmas decorations that became family favorites. Her birthday cakes were another expression of her love, bringing joy to countless family celebrations. Janice also spent many hours researching her family’s genealogy, preserving its history and helping future generations stay connected to their roots.

Family gatherings were never complete without one of Janice’s lively card games or a spirited round of spoons, where the infamous “Janice Rules” always sparked laughter and good-natured debate. She also looked forward to spending winters in Tierra Verde, Florida, where she enjoyed relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning or a margarita in the evening while taking in the beautiful ocean views.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church in Macomb with Pastor Cheyanna Losey officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026 at the church. Burial of ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Macomb or the charity of donor’s choice.
