Gary Lynn Thompson 77, of Macomb
It is with great sorrow that the family shares the passing of our beloved Gary Lynn Thompson of Macomb Illinois, who passed away on August 3rd, 2026 at 6:37 am in Peoria, Illinois at the age of 77.
Gary was born on April 3rd, 1949 in Macomb. Gary was married on September 22nd 1967 to Diana Cooper for sixteen years and to this marriage 3 children were born. Gary was then joined in marriage to the love of his life Mary “Henry” Groff on December 13th 1987, and they lived a very happy life together.
Gary enjoyed traveling and exploring with his wife Mary. He also enjoyed reading books and collecting buffalo. He never knew a stranger for long and was always willing to lend a hand or strike up a conversation. Gary cherished being a grandparent and spending time with all of his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara “Mabel” Thompson, son Douglas Thompson, daughter in law Amy Groff, and brother George Thompson.
Gary is survived by his wife Mary Thompson, daughter Sara Thompson, son Christopher (Teresa) Thompson, son by heart Chip Groff, six grandchildren Whitney (Brandon) Scholle, Joshua Vincent, Adam Vincent, Kassi Groff, Shelby Thompson, and Geoff Groff. Six great grandchildren Emma Lowe, Logan Vincent, Tristen Vincent, Natalie Vincent, Addalynn Haskell, and Kaison Groff, two sisters Roberta (Gilbert) Stutes, and Linda (Bob) Lewis, along with several nieces and nephews, and beloved cat Bella.
The family would like to encourage those who love Gary and his family to attend a celebration of life held at The Community Christian Center (CCC) at 355 West Main Street in Bushnell Illinois on August 15th 2026 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
