Diane Louise Breckon, 52, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.
Born on April 14, 1974, in Macomb, Illinois, Diane was the daughter of Bruce and Catherine (Kardaras) Breckon.
A 1992 graduate of Macomb High School, Diane had a lifelong love of learning. She continued her education at both Marquette University and Western Illinois University, and those who knew her recognized her as an exceptionally intelligent woman who genuinely enjoyed expanding her knowledge.
Diane was a devoted member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Rock Island. Her faith was reflected in the quiet ways she cared for others. She found great joy in crocheting prayer afghans for elderly members of her church, creating each one with love and compassion.
Among her church family, Diane was affectionately known as “The Cookie Lady.” She became famous for her delicious homemade cookies, which she faithfully prepared for fellowship gatherings following services. She always made enough for everyone to enjoy and to take home, sharing not only her baking but also her generous heart.
Her generosity extended to the local community as well. She frequently volunteered at Loaves and Fishes where she was known for being dependable when they needed extra help.
She is survived by her parents, Bruce & Catherine Breckon of Macomb; her sister, Martha (Jeremy) Edwards of Arab, AL; her niece, Allison Swiger; and her nephews, Aiden Swiger and Maximus Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Breckon; her maternal grandparents, Alexander and Margaret Kardaras; and her paternal grandparents, James and Leah Breckon.
Visitation will be held from 9 - 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Father Mike Constantinides and Deacon Paul Speed. Diane will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.
