Runners in grades 4-8 took part in the third annual Bomber Youth Distance Camp last week at MHS Stadium.
During the five-day event young athletes learned a lot about the sport of distance running including training, run prep to avoid injury, race strategy, team building, core building, diet and nutrition.
The camp was conducted by Macomb High cross country coach Doug Bradley, Macomb Middle School cross country coach Jeramie Okoh and Macomb High assistant cross country coach Ryan Ames.
Official practices for middle school runners as set by the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) begin on Aug. 3 with the season for high school runners as set by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) beginning one week later.
