Cyclone Trap Team Takes Part in National Competition

Members of the West Prairie Trap Team headed to Mason, Mich. last week to take part in the USA High School Clay Target League National Championships.

Teams and individuals throughout the country took part in the four-day event hosted by the Michigan Trapshooting Association.

The National Championship is the first and only event when the best USA High School Clay Target League participants nationwide are invited to attend and compete at the same venue.

“Our team had a fantastic experience,” said West Prairie trap coach Corinne “Corky” Biswell. “The kids outperformed their regular-season averages and both scored and placed higher than their previous national tournament showing.”

“A special shout-out goes to the families for making the commitment to participate and to Coach Peters and Coach McCullough for traveling with the team,” she added.

The team competition was held July 10 with 234 teams participating.

West Prairie finished 131st, posting a score of 450 out of 500.

Team Qualifier Results: placed 131/234 teams Maya Hofmeister led the way for the Cyclones, posting a score of 98 out of 100 (24-25-24-25).

Ethan Sartorius was next with a 95 (2425-23-23), followed by Aiden Percy with an 86 (24-21-22-19) and Cody Peters, who also recorded an 86 (21-21-24-20).

Jack Zimmerman rounded out the West Prairie shooters, posting an 85 (24-22-2019).

The top 80 teams advanced to the finals. Individual competition was held the following day with 1,752 shooters participating.

Hofmeister posted a final score of 93 (4647), finishing 45th out of 259 female shooters and 562nd overall.

Cody Peters recorded a 92 (47-45) to place 682nd out of 1,495 male shooters and 747th overall.

Charlie Zimmerman had a final score of 90 (46-44) to place 877th out of 1,495 males and 978th overall.

Aiden Percy finished with an 88 (44-44) to finish 1,064th out of 1,495 males and 1,196th overall.

John Zimmerman had a final score of 84 (42-42), placing 1,288th among the males and 1,476th overall.

The top 400 shooters overall advanced to the finals.
