Gimme Shelter Fundraiser Set for July 26

It's an annual event to honor a man to loved animals, while helping raise funds (and supplies for the McDonough County Animal Shelter).

The 18th annual Gimme Shelter golf scramble fundraiser, in memory of the late Kris Moore, will take place beginning at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, July 26 at Gold Hills Golf Course, west of Macomb. Moore, who graduated from Northwestern High School, died in November 2008 from complications related to heart issues. He was well-known from growing up in the county and working at The Café for several years, as well as for his volunteer efforts with the McDonough County Humane Society taking photos of the animals up for adoption and his dedication to adopting rescued animals, including his beloved Buddy and Scooter. The annual Kris Moore Gimme Shelter Annual Golf Tournament, was founded by the Moore family and a few of Moore's many friends, including Lee Trotter, Max Huffman and Roger Vizdal, to benefit the Humane Society of McDonough County.

Since the start of the Gimme Shelter outing, Trotter estimates they've raised close to $25,000 for the Humane Society and also donated over two tons of kitty litter for the shelter.

Several of the same people participate year-after-year, with more joining the cause to support the Humane Society and their efforts. Area businesses and individuals donate items for raffle prizes and Gold Hills always serves as the tourney's venue (including providing a meal for the golfers). Cost for the tournament is $60/person, plus a donation of 20 pounds of kitty litter per team. The tournament will feature a scramble format, hole prizes, raffles and a meal.

'We're incredibly grateful to Gold Hills, our donors, everyone who participates, and all those who support this event each year,' Trotter said. 'The continued turnout is amazing, and it's a wonderful way to honor Kris's memory. We're so proud to support the ongoing efforts of the humane society, and all that they do.

To register, contact Trotter at [email protected] or (309) 371-9295, or Gold Hills at (309) 837-2930.
