Hickory Ridge Concerts welcomes folk and old time duo Bobcat O’Possum to the stage on Saturday, July the 18th at 7 p.m. at the historic Ellisville Opera House in Ellisville, IL.
Bobcat Opossum is Sean Hoffman and Ellen Coplin from Northern Indiana.
Their music is rooted in their love of harmony singing and songs that tell a good story all performed on cello, fiddle, guitar, and concertina drawing inspiration from Irish, bluegrass, old time, and classical music.
Ellen Coplin crawled over to the piano as a toddler and hasn’t been able to shake the music habit since! She grew up in Northwest Ohio playing piano and cello and graduated from Taylor University with a bachelors in music composition. Sean Hoffman grew up playing bluegrass with his family in Indiana and studied Irish music with New York-based fiddler Brian Conway. He is fascinated by the relationship between Irish music and old-time dance music, those not so distant cousins separated by an ocean and re-imagined in the hills and hollers of the New World.
“Bobcat Opossum is a genre bending duo that blends Irish and Old Time American traditional tunes with homegrown original songs. Their music has been described as “a slow-roasted feast for the ears”. “This is a perfect duo to present in a historic space such as the Ellisville Opera House”, said series Director, Chris Vallillo.
