John C. Lafferty 62, of Macomb
John C. Lafferty, 62, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his residence at 5:29 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
Born on December 5, 1963, in Canton, Illinois, to Joe Lafferty and Mary Cardot and was later lovingly helped raised by Don Wilkinson, whom he considered his father as well. John married the love of his life, Kathy Robins, on June 11, 1983. Together they built a life centered around love, laughter, and family. Kathy survives.
Also surviving are his children, Alicia Depew (Alex Depew) of Springfield, Illinois, John R. Lafferty of Quincy, Illinois, and Amy Stiles (Luke Stiles) of Macomb, Illinois; his cherished grandchildren, Joe Depew, Jonathan Depew, and Judah Stiles; his twin sister, Annette Lafferty of Peoria, Illinois; his brothers, Brian Wilkinson (Danette Wilkinson) and Chris Wilkinson (Nicci Wilkinson), both of Canton, Illinois; and his stepfather, Don Wilkinson.
He was preceded in death by his father Joe Lafferty and his mother Mary Wilkinson.
John owned and operated LCP Janitorial Services for 20 years and later served as a custodian for the Macomb and Northwestern school districts, where he took pride in caring for others and forming meaningful connections with those around him.
John will be remembered most for his kind heart, playful spirit, and unwavering love for his family and not to mention Monical’s pizza, but ONLY from Canton. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to let others know it. A man who believed strongly in fairness and equality, he was vocal about standing up for the rights and dignity of others.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: reminiscing about the “good ol’ days”, evenings spent around a campfire, relaxing on the lazy river at Knights Action Park, trips to the movie theater and spending time at Lakeland Park. Friday night date nights at Hometown Café with Kathy were among his favorite traditions.
John loved sipping English Toffee Cappuccinos every morning, watching westerns, listening to The Cars, and keeping loved ones laughing with his endless pranks and sense of humor. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Sammy, who brought him great companionship and joy.
Though he will be deeply missed, John’s warmth, laughter, compassion, and the countless memories he created with family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family encourages everyone to honor John’s memory by gathering around a campfire, sharing stories, and holding their loved ones close.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a local food pantry in John’s honor or the American Heart Association.
